We have already mentioned in this article about the importance of exercise. People who exercise daily and exercise regularly generally have better health, more energy, less stress and a reduced risk of disease, depression and dementia in later life.
The importance of training
To make and keep our body stronger, training for our body is therefore necessary. As we age, our muscle mass and bone density decreases slowly. By regularly doing (strength) training, we can slow down or even reverse this process. It strengthens our body so that we can remain active at a later age. They say for good reason: use it or lose it. In case of 100 rep challenge this is important.
What is training?
Training gives a signal / stimulus to the body that it must adapt and strengthen. During a training you confront your body with shortcomings, so that it will adapt. Consider, for example, increasing your metabolism, creating blood cells, strengthening your bones or building more muscle mass.
Training is therefore not so much aimed at burning calories, but more at improving and strengthening your body. This makes your body better able to remove harmful substances, you burn more energy and you stay healthy, slim and fit.
Strength training
Strength training is a form of training in which you intensively burden different muscle groups to strengthen your muscles (and your bones). It gives your body a better posture and a more athletic appearance (muscles shape our body).
We can perform strength training in many ways. Exercises can be done with the help of dumbbells and bars (barbells), other free weights and / or machines and fitness equipment. It is also possible to increase your muscle strength and muscle condition by doing exercises with your own body weight.
Strength training must be intensive enough to stimulate muscle tissue to grow and adapt. This is necessary to force the body to adjust and it is therefore important to train as intensively as possible. You can also go for the 10000 kettlebell swings there.
Cardio training
Cardio training is a form of training where the focus is mainly on the long-term increase of the heartbeat. This can be done in many different ways such as cycling or running, but also within a gym on the rowing machine or a cross trainer. There are also many group lessons that can be seen as good cardio training and popular training courses such as Bootcamps and CrossFit.
By doing cardio training you strengthen your heart and lungs and increase the amount of oxygen in your body. Just like with strength training, this leads to a better metabolism, improved fat burning and a better condition.
However, cardio training not only improves your fitness, but also reduces the risk of many disorders and health problems in this way.
Good cardio training is therefore not only aimed at burning calories, but especially at strengthening your heart and lungs and improving your metabolism, your condition and your health.
Interval training
A very effective way of cardio training is the so-called interval training. Hereby periods (intervals) of high intensity or resistance alternate with periods of recovery that give the body the opportunity to prepare for the next period (interval).
